Pull Up a Chair by Curt Smith7/6/2023 ![]() ![]() … It’s a terrible feeling when your life doesn’t belong to you. “Now all my pals I turned down will think less of me. Scully said it was a “very helpless feeling” to have the book done – and again, he deflected it by saying he was disappointed because he had turned down requests by local writers. There was the 2009 book, “Pull Up A Chair,” by noted baseball broadcast historian Curt Smith, which resulted in a column explaining Smith’s intentions as well as Scully’s reservations, which had put the project on hold for several years. He would, like any human, mix a name and a date, or perhaps miss a play, probably because he was reading a note. ![]() He received some criticism, as did the other Dodgers broadcasters, about how they skirted talking about the pending MLB strike in 1981. Scully had the trust of many writers who followed the team for decades and as a result, maybe we felt some obligation to be protective of his well-being. No idea about the context of that one, except that there were many times he confided about something that helped bring an understanding about a situation on background but was not meant for publication. ![]() “It was trust well placed, many thanks,” says another. 1 position, again, in our annual play-by-play rankings of local broadcasters. A note from 2006 says: “I am fully aware that the wolves are getting closer to my campfire and at this stage of my life is extremely important to me.” It was likely a result of giving him a No. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() then we got the blackboard scene mentioned above and I became impressed with how the book started handling both her social awkwardness and her attempts at overcoming it. I mean, it had a few funny scenes, but it initially just wasn't working for me. ![]() During the initial set-up chapters, I was pretty sure that I was going to consider this one a disappointment. The chapters were all extremely short and rather awkward. So, this one was a bit rough at the start. Thus Tadano has a new goal, helping Komi at least try to communicate. Through a (wonderful) scene where they communicate on the class blackboard, he realizes that she's wanted to make friends for some time but can't talk to people. After a few interactions, he starts realizing that it's not cold aloofness like others think, but rather extreme social anxiety. He meets Komi who is one of the most popular girls in class, but also one of the most unapproachable. His goal is to pretty much go unnoticed (middle school was a nightmare of bullying and being a social outcast from what little we get from his background). The plot follows Tadano as he starts high school. ![]()

Laura thalassa bargainer series7/4/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Years later, Des appears in her life and there’s nothing but chaos in her life. However, as they grow closer, a tragedy (and some magic) tears them apart. ![]() ![]() She’s a minor, and he must be like a couple of hundred years old. One fateful night, Callie calles on The Bargainer (Desmond) so she can get away with murder (literally). And yet, I myself was drawn into the plot.Ĭallypso is a siren, Bargainer is fae. The reason of jumping into this whole bargaining-because-you-need-to-see-that-person-at-any-cost is a little cliched. And while the world warned her against the bad guy, she could not help but to be drawn to him. So The Bargainer is seemingly the bad guy, Callie is someone who has struck endless bargains with him, and with each bargain, she has beads added to a bracelet into her hand that can never be removed. However, I know of people who have despised it due to a few tropes in it. Rhapsodic is one of those fast-paced entertainers that you cannot seem to put down once you start. There’s a catch or two, but I think you’ll like this paranormal romance. A lot of fantastical elements have been thrown into this for that feeling of being transported into another world. Quick, racy and intriguing – that’s what this book is. ![]() |
